In 1712 Peter Holbrook Sr. was in Bellingham MA and deeded to his son Peter about 70 acres near the County Road and Beaver Pond River. Hannah Wood, was b. 8 March 1784 in East Alstead NH and d. 27 July 1845 in Surry NH. He kept a hotel and also carried on farming. He was a prominent man of the town, was councilor under Governor Hubbard, represented the town several terms, and also held the several town offices. He died here in 1855. He lived with his father on the old place, and after his father's death, moved to Keene NH where he was engaged in mercantile business with William Kilburn. He was with Kilburn about 2 years when he retired from the firm. Aobut a year later he went into the wholesale and retail grocery and feed store (where N.G. Gurnsey and Sons were later) with George E. Holbrook, remaining 3 years, when he gave up business. He represented the town of Surry NH for several terms in the legislature, was high sheriff of the county, and was selectman of the town. He was well known in the county, was very social and courteous. He died 9 May 1877. His widow lived later in Keene NH. George & Susan had NO children. Stephen Holbrook, son of Elijah & Abigail (Wilson) Holbrook, b 15 May 1797 E. Alstead NH; d. 24 Apr 1854 as the result of injuries received from a runaway horse; He m. 3 Nov 1819 to Lydia Brigham. She b. 1800 in NH, and d. 1870. They resided in Alstead NH until 1850 when they removed to Manchester NH, and then to Amherst NH 1 Apr 1854.
